Shelby Hansen, a native Houstonian, is an incoming board member to ROADwomen, having worked with the organization for a number of years during her tenure at Bayou City Strategies.

Shelby graduated summa cum laude from the University of Houston in May 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and a minor in public relations. She is proudly a third generation Cougar and the fifth in her family to attend the college. During her time there, she joined six honor societies and was an intern for nine months for then Houston Mayor Annise Parker in the Communications office.

The day after her graduation, Shelby began volunteering with Mayor Parker’s re-election campaign. At Bayou City Strategies (formerly Lillie Schechter Consulting), Shelby learned the ins and outs of local political finance, communications and event planning working with a range of clients including State Senator Sylvia Garcia and Ready for Hillary PAC.

In December 2015, Shelby joined education nonprofit Project GRAD Houston as the Chief of Staff to Dr. Ann B. Stiles, President & CEO. There she worked to advance GRAD’s mission of helping low-income individuals achieve their educational aspirations by supporting the executive leadership and Board of Directors and completed Rice University’s Glasscock School of Continuing Studies Human Resource Management program.

Most recently, Shelby became the Fundraising Director at Strong Strategies, LLC, a Houston political fundraising firm founded by Pat Strong in 2003. As Fundraising Director, Shelby is responsible for developing and executing fundraising plans for Strong Strategies clients’ which include federal, state, county, and municipal elected officials and candidates.

Shelby has been recognized as an Emerging Leader by the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Rising Star by the League of Women Voters Houston and one of Houston’s Top Allies of 2016 by Outsmart Magazine.
